Privacy Policy

Effective October 9, 2026

In short

  • Your prayer times, your prayer history, your Journal and your answers to “How is your heart?” stay on your phone. There is one exception. See “Analytics.”
  • If you use “For others,” we keep your requests, your first name and your general area (within about 11 km), so other people can pray for you.
  • We do not sell your data, and we show no ads.
  • You can delete your account and everything you shared from Settings in the app.

Who we are

Nicholas Engleman makes the Life of Prayer app. In this policy, “we” means Nicholas Engleman. Questions about privacy: privacy@lifeofprayer.app.

What stays on your phone

These are stored only on your device. We do not send them to our server:

  • Your prayer times, the prayers in them and the times you pray.
  • Your prayer history and your Journal.
  • Your daily intention (“Today I pray for”) and your answers to “How is your heart?”
  • The apps you choose to lock. The lock uses Apple’s Screen Time. Apple does not give us the names of your apps or how you use them.

See “Analytics” below for one exception: a small share of app sessions may be recorded as screen replays.

“For others”: requests and prayers

To pray for other people, the app must use our server. To use it, you sign in with Apple. Apple gives us a sign-in code for your account. We do not ask Apple for your email address. If you agree, Apple gives us your name one time. We use only your first name.

When you use “For others,” we store:

  • Your requests: the text you write (up to 280 characters), how long it stays open (1 or 9 days), and if it is open or closed.
  • Your first name, shown with your requests and on the prayers you say for others. You can leave it out, and the app shows “Someone.”
  • Your general area: a position that is correct to about 11 km, and your state or region and country. Other people see only your state or region, never your town. We find the area from your internet connection. If you turn on location in Settings, we use your phone’s location instead. The app asks only for an approximate location, not an exact one.
  • Prayers: who prayed for which request, which prayer they said, when they prayed, the general area of the person who prayed, and if the person thanked them.
  • A notification code from Apple, so we can tell you when someone prays for you. You can turn off notifications in iOS Settings.
  • Reports that people send about a request, and the reason they give.
  • Your time zone, so messages arrive at the correct time for you.

Other people see your request, your first name and your state or region. They do not see your exact area, your account or any other information.

Some older requests have a link that people could share. When someone prays on that web page, we count the prayer with a coded cookie and a coded version of their internet address. We do not keep the internet address itself.

How requests are checked

To keep “For others” safe, we check each new request and each first name before other people see it. First, simple rules remove links, email addresses and phone numbers. Then an AI model checks the text and gives it a topic, like work or family. The model is Meta Llama, and Cloudflare Workers AI runs it. We may also read requests ourselves and remove harmful ones.

Analytics

We use a service called PostHog. It helps us see how people use the app and find problems. PostHog gets:

  • A random code that the app makes. It is not your name or your Apple account.
  • Actions in the app, like “a prayer time was prayed,” with numbers and times. We remove private details before we send them.
  • From the first setup: your tradition (Catholic or Orthodox), how many hours you think you use your phone, and the type of intention you chose (for example “my family”). Never the words you type.
  • Error reports when the app has a problem.
  • Screen recordings of about 1 in 10 times you use the app. These hide the text you type and the images. But other text on the screen, like prayer requests you read, can show in a recording.

Subscriptions

Apple handles all payments. We never see your card. We use a service called RevenueCat to know if your subscription is active. RevenueCat gets the same random code and your purchase records from Apple.

Companies that handle your data

  • Cloudflare runs our server, the database for “For others,” this website, our email and the AI check of requests.
  • Apple gives us sign-in, notifications, Screen Time and payments.
  • PostHog gives us app statistics. It stores data in the United States.
  • RevenueCat keeps track of subscriptions.

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We do not share it for ads.

How long we keep it

  • A request closes after 1 or 9 days. It closes later if you choose “Keep asking.” Closed requests and their prayers stay on our server until you delete them or delete your account.
  • We keep your account data until you delete your account.
  • Data on your phone stays there until you delete the app.

What you can do

  • Delete a request: open it in My requests, tap “…” and remove it. This also deletes its prayers and reports.
  • Delete your account: go to Settings › Delete account. This deletes your account, your requests, and the prayers and reports you made.
  • Location: turn it off in Settings or in iOS Settings. After that, we use only your internet connection to find your general area.
  • Notifications: turn them off in iOS Settings.
  • Ask us: to see, fix or delete your data, email privacy@lifeofprayer.app. We answer within 30 days. The law where you live may give you more rights. You can also complain to the data protection office in your country.

Children

Life of Prayer is not for children under 13. We do not try to collect data from children. If you think a child used “For others,” email us and we will delete the data.

Security

Data is encrypted when it moves between your phone and our server. Your sign-in is stored in your phone’s secure storage (the Keychain). Our server keeps only a coded version of it. No system is completely safe, so we collect as little as we can.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
